### 34. How much water does it take to produce something?

This is a very difficult question to answer. Do we simply measure the amount of rain falling on a wheat crop or the amount of water used in a factory to make steel?

The amount of water used to produce milk would include the water used to grow the pasture which the cows eat as well as the amount of water the cows drink. The amount of water to produce steel would include the water used in the steel making factory, the water used to transport the iron ore and other raw materials to the factory and the amount of water used to mine the raw materials.
